Our Vision

We envision a well-connected network of non-motorized trails that links the diverse landscapes and communities of San Juan Island. These trails support recreation, transportation, health, and a deeper connection to the island’s natural and cultural heritage — now and for generations to come.

Our Mission

The San Juan Island Trails Committee works to facilitate, promote, and participate in the creation, use, and stewardship of a trail system for walking, biking, and horseback riding. We are dedicated to making trails more accessible to all, while preserving the beauty and ecology of the island we love.

Our Goals

  • Plan for the Future
Develop a long-range vision for trails that is inclusive, community-driven, and reflective of the island’s unique character and needs.

  • Build Community Connections
Advocate for trails that link key destinations across the island — including parks, neighborhoods, cultural sites, schools, farms, and town centers — making it easier and more enjoyable to travel without a car.

  • Support Trail Development
Collaborate with public agencies, landowners, and partner organizations to design, build, and maintain safe, sustainable, and scenic non-motorized trails.

  • Promote Education & Awareness
Share trail maps and resources, lead guided hikes, and educate the community about the environmental, recreational, and health benefits of trails.

  • Encourage Stewardship
Inspire public and private support for trails through volunteer engagement, partnerships, and long-term maintenance strategies.
