About the SJI Trails Committee
The San Juan Island Trails Committee is an all-volunteer group dedicated to expanding and maintaining non-motorized trails on San Juan Island. Formed in 1999 with support from Island Rec, we collaborate with trail partners, assist with maintenance and stewardship, and advocate for new trail development to ensure everyone can enjoy the island’s scenic trails.
We host monthly meetings that are open to the public, offering a space for community members to share ideas, stay informed, and get involved. We also host the popular “Know Your Island Walks,” guided walks held throughout the year that highlight local trails, natural history, and island heritage.
Volunteers meet regularly to plan, advocate, and help with trail maintenance. Whether you're interested in walking, biking, or horseback riding, there’s a place for you on the committee. Over 200 islanders stay connected through our email list and are invited to participate in events, meetings, and work parties.
The Trails Committee doesn’t own land—we work through partnerships. Our role is to encourage public and private landowners to support trails and help bring them to life through thoughtful planning, collaboration, and care.
